The FCC is a federal agency that regulates telecommunications. This includes radio, television, wire, satellite and cable services in the United States. The FCC also regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television and wire.

The FCC was created in 1934 by Congress to regulate interstate and international communications by radio, television and wire. Today it is charged with regulating interstate and intrastate telecommunications as well as all other communication by wire or radio that begins or ends in the U.S., its territories or possessions.

The FCC’s jurisdiction covers virtually all types of communications technology, including:

Telephone service

Radio and TV broadcasting

Cable TV service

Wireless telephone service

Internet access service (including DSL)

Cellular phone service

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a process for filing official complaints about content on television, radio, and other media. The process is called the “Accelerated Complaint Process,” or ACP.

If you have a complaint about something that’s being broadcast by a TV station, AM or FM radio station, cable system, satellite provider, or other provider of multichannel video programming service (MVPD), you can file an official complaint with the FCC. The FCC will investigate your complaint and take action if necessary.

The FCC’s ACP is designed to make sure that all Americans have access to accurate information from their local media outlets. It’s also intended to help ensure that all Americans are able to receive both news coverage and public affairs programming that is free from bias or interference from outside parties who may have political or commercial interests at stake in the specific content being covered by these stations’ news departments.

The Federal Communications Commission is dedicated to protecting consumers, promoting competition, and ensuring the efficiency and use of our nation’s communications networks. We accomplish this by regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC also regulates all non-federal government use of the radio frequency spectrum.
