The DMV Real ID application form is a document issued by the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles that complies with the Real ID Act. The Real ID act became effective in May of 2008 and was proposed as an anti-terrorism measure by Congress. It was passed after 9/11 when it was determined that those who had access to airplanes could not be properly identified during security checks.

New Mexico DSC is processing REAL ID applications for all residents who need to replace their driver’s licenses or identification cards. Individuals can apply for REAL ID at any of the following NM DSC offices until May 1, 2020. New Mexico Drivers License Services Centers are located in Alamogordo, Albuquerque and Las Cruces.

What is the DMV Real ID?

A DMV Real ID is an identification card that meets federal government requirements to board a domestic flight or enter most federal facilities. The DMV Real ID application form is available as a PDF file, which you can download and print on your own printer. You can apply for your Real ID while getting a driver license or ID card, or when renewing either. If you don’t already have a Real ID compliant license or ID card, go to the DMV in person with documents proving your identity, SSN and address.

DMV REAL ID Application Form is a combination of two forms, DS-82 and 88. Each form requires you to provide detailed information about yourself, as well as any name changes that may have occurred.

How to file DMV Real ID Application Form

Apply for a REAL ID-compliant Driver’s License or ID Card. This form is used to verify your personal information and residency, as required by the federal government in order to obtain a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card.

The real ID, commonly referred to as the “gold standard” for driver’s licenses, is designed only for federal purposes. It contains enhanced security features and is accepted for domestic air travel and entry into military bases and most federal facilities. You cannot use a standard identification to board a plane or enter a secure facility.
