The handicap parking permit application process varies by state. In general, however, you must have a valid driver’s license, provide proof of your disability and pay a nominal fee to obtain a permit. It’s easy to apply for your handicap parking permit. A handicap parking permit application can be filed online, in person or by mail. Once you submit your application, it will be reviewed by an administrative law judge and then approved or denied based on the information provided. There is a filing fee of $30 for new applications and $20 for renewals and changes. If you are applying online, it will take approximately 10 days to complete the process.
This application covers the requirements for a city of handicap parking permit, which will be issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The applicant must have their physician, who is licensed to practice medicine where they live, complete this application form and recommend that they are eligible for a handicap license plate or placard.
This application sis to be filed by the applicant in person or with a power of attorney. The Parking Administrator will review the application and determine if it is complete, whether the applicant is disabled and meet the qualifying criteria, if there are any outstanding violations and whether or not the applicant qualifies for a temporary or permanent permit. Upon approval, an application fee must be paid for each vehicle.
If you have been diagnosed with a certain debilitating disease, illness or injury and your physician certifies that you are unable to walk 200 feet without resting, then you may be eligible for a handicap parking permit. If you have a physical disability or visual impairment and need to park closer to your destination, you may apply for a permanent parking permit from the City Clerk’s Office.
