The 20th Governor of Texas is Greg Abbott. He has pursued an active agenda, slashing taxes and regulations, fighting crime, and preparing Texas for the future. He was born on November 13, 1957 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Abbott attended Baylor University where he earned three degrees: a B.A. in English; a J.D.; and M.B.A.. After graduation from law school in 1984, Greg Abbott was allowed to practice law in Texas under the court system’s “probationary license” rule that allows students who are recent graduates of accredited law schools to work as lawyers under the supervision of attorneys with five years or more experience in the field. As a result of his outstanding performance during that judicial apprenticeship period, Attorney General Jim Mattox appointed Greg Abbott as an assistant attorney general in charge of prosecution for the Consumer Protection Division.
A conservative Republican, Greg Abbott has been the governor of Texas since 2015. He is best known for his focus on job growth and education reform in Texas, two themes he has emphasized throughout his campaign for re-election.

He previously served for nine years as the attorney general for the State of Texas, where he worked tirelessly to safeguard and protect Texans from criminals, fraudsters and other bad actors, serving as an effective leader against organized crime and corruption, who fought to uphold the rule of law.
The Governor has made a strong, personal commitment to foster economic growth and create jobs by making Texas the most business-friendly state in the nation. He has cut taxes, reduced regulations, streamlined permitting processes and streamlined the business environment.
The governor was named “The Most Effective Governor in America” by The Wall Street Journal and ranks first among all governors for success in getting laws through the legislature, according to Pew Research Center.
