A candidate for governor in Michigan campaigned on a platform of eliminating the minimum wage, and his policy was trounced by an opponent who said it would harm workers. The state announced Monday that Gov. Rick Snyder would not seek reelection this year after voters approved a ballot measure to repeal a law that barred tip pools from counting toward the minimum wage. Michigan does go through gubernatorial elections, usually once every four years. The current governor is Gretchen Whitmer, who was elected in November 2018.

With that said, there are many benefits to having a Governor in Michigan. For example, it is helpful to have leaders running our state who take the time to learn the needs and issues of their constituents, who would be able to make informed judgments and decisions on behalf of Michigan residents.
